Nairobi’s nightlife is about to get a string section. The Bar Symphony, a live orchestral music experience set inside a contemporary social setting, makes its Kenyan debut on Saturday, 7 November at The Alloy, Sarit Centre. Presented by 360 Immersive in collaboration with Crispy Life, it promises a night out that sounds like nothing else on the city’s calendar.
The Idea Behind The Bar Symphony
The concept began with a simple question: what if people could experience their favourite music differently? For the founders of 360 Immersive, music had started to feel repetitive, with familiar songs often sounding much the same wherever you hear them. Their answer was to rearrange and reengineer popular songs through orchestral interpretations, giving each one a fresh sound and character.
“We felt there was room to do something different with music,” the founders say. “People are familiar with certain songs and how they traditionally sound, but we wanted to challenge that familiarity. By reengineering and rearranging these songs through orchestral music, we create an opportunity for people to hear something they already love in a completely new way.”
The first edition in Kampala was, in their words, magical, and Nairobi is the next step.
Not Your Usual Orchestral Concert
This is not a conventional concert hall evening. The Bar Symphony places live orchestral performance within a social entertainment setting, pairing the musical depth of an orchestra with the atmosphere of a night out. Familiar songs arrive in new arrangements, traditional orchestral sounds meet contemporary entertainment, and the result is an alternative to Nairobi’s usual nightlife options.
The appeal lies in the unexpected. You may know every word of a song, but hearing it rebuilt for an orchestra gives it a different weight.
