Kenya Airways Is Rebuilding How You Book, Fly and Experience Travel From the Ground Up

Kenya Airways has partnered with Sabre and Branchspace to modernise booking, check-in and digital retailing for a faster, more personal travel experience.

Kenya Airways has announced a significant technology partnership that will change how passengers book, manage and experience their travel with the airline. Working with global travel technology company Sabre and boutique travel tech firm Branchspace, the airline is replacing the core reservations and ticketing platform it has operated on for more than two decades, building a new digital foundation designed around how modern travellers actually want to interact with an airline.

The collaboration was announced on 22 September 2026 and marks one of the most consequential technology transformations in the airline's recent history.

What Is Actually Changing and Why It Matters

For passengers, the practical improvements will be felt across the entire journey. Booking becomes more intuitive, with tailored fares and ancillary options that match individual traveller preferences rather than presenting a one-size-fits-all menu. Bundling flights, bags, seats and other trip components becomes easier. The mobile and digital booking experience gets a meaningful upgrade. Airport check-in moves faster. And when disruptions happen, as they inevitably do, real-time rebooking tools mean passengers can reroute themselves with far less friction than before.

Members of the Asante Rewards programme will also see improvements, with quicker self-service tools and an upgraded rewards experience built into the new platform from the start.

At the core of this transformation is Sabre Mosaic, the new operational and commercial backbone of the airline. Sabre, listed on NASDAQ and one of the world's leading travel technology companies powering reservations, distribution and retailing globally, brings its Mosaic Offer Optimisation capability to the partnership. This uses continuous learning and dynamic pricing to match flight and ancillary offers more closely to actual traveller demand, moving Kenya Airways toward what the industry calls offer-and-order-based retailing: a more flexible, personalised commercial model that the world's leading carriers are building toward.

Alongside Sabre, Branchspace, a boutique travel technology and consulting firm with clients including British Airways, Lufthansa Group, Air France/KLM, Turkish Airlines, Finnair and Virgin Australia, is building the digital commerce layer that passengers will interact with directly. Its Triplake platform serves as Kenya Airways' primary digital touchpoint from day one, giving the airline's commercial teams immediate control over personalised offers across booking channels while the deeper infrastructure transformation continues in the background.

The People Behind the Partnership

Julius Thairu, Chief Commercial and Customer Officer at Kenya Airways, described the significance of the shift:

"This is an important transformation of Kenya Airways' technology and digital retailing capabilities. The combination of digital commerce and a new PSS foundation will help us create a more flexible and personalised experience for our customers and staff, and enable a seamless transition towards the future of airline retailing."

Niklas Andréen, Chief Commercial Officer for Airline Technology at Sabre, spoke to what the partnership represents for the industry more broadly:

"This decision reflects growing confidence in modular technology that enables carriers to unlock value today while building toward an offer-and-order future."

David Turton, CTO of Branchspace, connected the partnership back to the firm's founding purpose:

"Technology that gives airlines control over their own commercial destiny, supported with know-how and continuous innovation to remain at the cutting edge. Kenya Airways is taking a bold step in their transformation to a modern retailer, and we're proud that our capabilities will be central to making that vision real from day one."

A Strategic Move for Africa's Leading Carrier

The partnerships also align Kenya Airways with IATA's New Distribution Capability standards, positioning the airline as an early mover within the SkyTeam Alliance on this front. Importantly, Sabre's modular technology allows the airline to modernise in stages rather than through a single disruptive cutover, unlocking value from each component as it comes online rather than waiting for a complete system switch.

Kenya Airways, a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, currently flies to 42 destinations worldwide, 35 of which are in Africa, operating a fleet of widebody Boeing aircraft including its flagship B787 Dreamliner and narrow-body Embraer E190 aircraft out of its hub at Terminal 1A at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The technology transformation directly supports the airline's broader ambitions: increasing direct sales, growing ancillary revenue and building a digital and commercial foundation capable of scaling with a growing network.

For frequent travellers, the promise is a Kenya Airways experience that finally moves at the pace of expectations.
