Kraftory Biergarten: where Germany meets Kenya, one perfectly poured draught at a time
A red Volkswagen Beetle — registration KKK 231 — greets you at the entrance. It is the first signal that what lies beyond is not a standard Nairobi bar. It is a deliberate, considered experience built around one of the world's most beloved drinking traditions, transplanted to a few acres off Redhill Road in Rosslyn and given a distinctly Kenyan soul.
Kraftory Biergarten opened in October 2025, positioned right next to Rosslyn Luxury Mall — a few kilometres from Nairobi's CBD but atmospherically a world away. The dark green and gold colour scheme carries through the entire space. The large deer logo and calligraphy-encrypted name announce the concept before you step inside. And the VW Beetle at the door confirms it: this is Germany in Kenya, and the blend is entirely intentional.
The concept behind it
"It is a deliberate German-inspired concept with a Kenyan twist," says Rixan Fernandes, Food and Beverage Manager at Kraftory Biergarten — and the confidence with which he says it is reflected in every design choice across the property.

The Kenyan twist is not cosmetic. It is structural. Bartender and resident notice-board writer Lawrence Luvindi puts it plainly: Kraftory Biergarten is a taste of the countryside — German and Kenyan in a beautiful blend. The communal tables, the open-air atmosphere, the sport on the big screen and the bottomless taps speak to something Fernandes identifies as fundamentally local in spirit.
"Draught beer is really people-friendly. Kenyans enjoy the togetherness and this fits right in with the culture — that is our motivation at Kraftory Biergarten."
The space: designed to be explored
Kraftory Biergarten is not a single room. It is a property with distinct spaces that each offer a different version of the same experience — and part of the pleasure is finding which one suits your mood.
The entrance opens into a generous outdoor space of artistically crafted wooden tables, benches and seats. A direction post next to a green phone booth — the fernsprecher — guides guests through the garden and signals immediately that the design details have been thought through with genuine care.
At the heart of the outdoor space stands an imposing avocado tree on a manicured grass mound — the management cheerfully warns guests about guacamole falling from above — framed by a giant screen for sport viewing and surrounded by speakers carrying soft music across the entire garden. It is the kind of outdoor space that works equally well under an afternoon sun and a Nairobi night sky.
Two bars serve the space. The Padel Area bar is the social centre of the beer garden — the spot where most guests settle in and stay longest. The indoor bar offers a quieter, more enclosed alternative for guests who want to catch up on emails or enjoy a longer, more focused meal from the kitchen.
The private room is the space for a completely different occasion. Complete with deer-emblazoned seats, a fireplace, a dining table and a vintage gramophone that stands prominently in the corner, it offers an evening of real privacy with the warmth of a German-inspired interior — a setting equally suited to a business dinner or a long evening with close friends.
The draught: 36 taps and the perfect pour
Kraftory Biergarten's core offering is draught beer — and it takes that offering seriously. Thirty-six taps across the property make it one of the most extensively equipped draught beer venues in Nairobi.
The most popular order at the Padel Area bar is White Cap Draught — served crisp and perfectly poured into a 330ml glass or, for groups, a 3-litre pitcher that invites guests to attempt their own pour at the table. Tusker Draught runs alongside it from the bottomless taps, offering the two draught benchmarks of the Kenyan beer landscape in a setting purpose-built for enjoying them slowly.
The precision of the pour matters here. Each mug is served at optimal temperature for balance and clarity — a detail that reflects both the German tradition the venue draws from and the standard that draught beer genuinely deserves.
Beyond the beer
The food programme at Kraftory Biergarten is built around the same quality-first thinking as the draught offering. Fresh clay-oven-baked pizza from the in-house Pizzeria and sourdough bread from the bakery make the indoor bar area a genuine destination for those who want to eat well alongside their draught — the combination of a cold White Cap and a freshly baked pizza in the covered bar area is exactly as good as it sounds.
For those who want to move: three dedicated padel courts with attendants make Kraftory Biergarten one of the few venues in Nairobi where you can play a serious match and then immediately reward yourself with a 3-litre pitcher of draught at a table within view of the court. A selection of board games covers the guests who prefer their competition without the sweat.
